🔍 What is a Murder Mystery?

Someone died. Find them. Gather clues. Reconstruct what happened.

ALL CHARACTERS

What are you trying to figure out?

  • Who killed them?
  • What were they doing there?
  • Where did they die?
  • When did they die?
  • Why did they die?
  • How did they die?

Who do you share your clues with?

That is entirely up to you. You may lie, tell the truth, trade information, or keep it all to yourself.


Win Conditions

  • This game is point based.
  • At the end, the player with the highest points wins.
  • You will earn points by completing tasks, solving clues, and making deductions.

Points System

Action Points
Complete 1 social task +1 pt each (up to 2)
Complete interaction task +2 pts
Complete suspicious task +2 pts
Be MVP for solving a puzzle (needs to be verified by DM) +1 pt +1 coin
Individually guess the murderer correctly +4 pts
Group votes correctly on murderer +4 pts to everyone except killer
If the group fails & killer guesses wrong person +4 pts to killer
Complete bonus character objective +6 pts

Coin System

Coins add a layer of bribery and player negotiation. You may use them however your character sees fit.

Starting Coin Rules:

  • Both Silver and Gold Coins are worth the same (and ignore the numbers on the back)
  • Each player begins with 3 coins.
  • Some characters (e.g., Brittany, Charlie, Paul) may start with extra due to story reasons.

What can coins be used for?

  • Buy information from another player
  • Bribe someone to lie or defend you
  • Trade for a clue or artifact
  • Spend to unlock a sealed area or prop (GM-controlled)

How to gain more coins?

  • Be the MVP for one puzzle. (There could be more than one MVP, DM's discretion)

You may give, steal, or gamble coins. Keep them safe.


20 Questions Anyone Can Ask

Use these freely to get people talking, throw suspicion, or gather intel:

  1. Where were you the night Red died?
  2. Did you hear the knocking too?
  3. Why did Red trust you?
  4. What’s your connection to the vault?
  5. Are you hiding something from the shaft logbook?
  6. Do you think this was an accident or a murder?
  7. Did you go into the shafts?
  8. What did you find in your drone scan?
  9. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen since Red died?
  10. Who do you think is lying?
  11. What does your sample core mean?
  12. Do you recognize this symbol?
  13. What was your last conversation with Red?
  14. Do you believe in the legends?
  15. What’s your theory on what the vault really is?
  16. Have you read anyone else's clues?
  17. Are you working with someone else?
  18. Why are you even here?
  19. What are you trying to protect?
  20. Why haven’t you told anyone what you know?
